Between 2004 and 2005, Wexford enjoyed notable senior inter-county success. The senior hurlers won the 2004 Leinster Senior Hurling Championship, defeating Offaly in the provincial final, and followed this up in 2005 by winning the All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship. On the football side, Wexford’s senior footballers reached the National Football League Division 1 final in 2005 — their first appearance at that level in over 50 years — though they were beaten by Armagh, and they also reached the final of the 2005 Tommy Murphy Cup.
